Graphs that show position vs time (position on the vertical axis and time on the horizontal axis) are a great way of showing a lot of information in one diagram.  Additionally, the slope of the line can tell us about how fast the position is changing, and whether the object is moving with uniform motion.

Keywords to know:

  • uniform motion
  • slope of a line
  • Line of best fit

After today you should be able to:

  • Read data from a position-time graph
  • Determine whether an object is moving with uniform motion by analyzing the slope of a line on a position time graph
  • Determine direction of travel by looking at the slope of a line on a position-time graph
  • Draw a line of best fit
